About Us

4 CLEANER OCEANS is a non-profit organization geared towards creating a cleaner ocean, cleaner beaches, and a safe habitat for our marine life. We work towards this goal, not simply by picking up waste on our beaches and in our oceans, but by teaching! Our mission includes teaching habits and behaviors to our communities that will reduce the waste that ends up in the water to begin with. Every single person can make a HUGE difference.

We became a non-profit organization in 2013 in Jekyll Island, a popular beach in South Glynn County, Georgia. This area has a critical barrier island ecosystem that the community greatly wanted to preserve. In 2016, 4 Cleaner Oceans expanded its projects to include beach cleanups throughout Georgia and the Carolinas. With over 65 beach cleanup projects a year, we are responsible for getting thousands of gallons of plastic and waste off of our beaches and out of our oceans.

How you can help

  • Donate - our non-profit organization is completely reliant on donations from the community to keep our operation running. 100% of funds go towards cleanup efforts, recycling projects, supplies, advertising (so more people will join the cause!), and keeping our website and newletter current and running
  • Volunteer - your time is just as helpful as donating money. We couldn't make any of this happen without our volunteers. Because of people like YOU, we are able to keep thousands of gallons of plastic and waste out of our oceans and off of our local beaches. Volunteer FAQ
  • Spread the word - tell your family, friends, neighbors, pets, and strangers you meet on the street about our organization! Every person makes a difference!
  • Do your part - learn more here about what you can do to lower your household's waste production. Even if you aren't throwing your trash directly into the ocean on your family trip to the beach, chances are, it's making it into the ocean anyways. Using resuable containers and straws whenever possible is a small choice you can make every day
